Myself and two friends rented a two bedroom apartment from Shearer property for a 6 month lease. This was to include wifi as part of the rent. We did not receive a wifi connection for the entire duration of the lease. We inquired almost weekly about the status of the wifi connection, however our emails/phone calls were either ignored/dismissed or not followed up.Two months into our lease, two of us were home when the kitchen sink pipes burst spontaneously. We called a plumber and immediately informed the real estate agent Luke, who asked if we had contacted the plumber listed in the lease. We informed him that we had called a plumber from google and asked should we cancel this and call the plumber listed in the lease. He replied no and we proceeded. Shortly afterwards we were then told that we would not be reimbursed for the cost of the emergency plumber, as we didn't select the plumber listed in the lease. When we spoke face to face with the manager Sue and Luke about the issue, Luke then lied and denied the phone call ever happened. Had we not have been home, the apartment would have been destroyed. Due to not being supplied with the correct information we were only reimbursed for half the cost of the plumber as a 'compromise'. On another occasion, during one of our inspections it was brought to Lukes attention that the shower-head was leaking water across the bathroom in an unsafe manner. This issue was neglected by Luke, until an accident occurred. I received an electric shock off of the light switch in the bathroom as it did not meet health and safety standards. No shower curtain was provided or railing in order to keep the light switch dry. When this matter was raised, Luke showed no empathy towards myself or the situation. I had to explain how unsafe I felt in my own apartment. This issue was dealt with within one day after I showed up at the office in tears and begged for something to be done. In this time Luke had said he would get the Landlord to discuss this but was unable to contact her at that time. During both of our inspections Luke showed general unprofessionalism, for example he would walk into our bedrooms and close the door behind him. Which made us feel uncomfortable. We did not know what he was doing in our room, if we attempted to go into our room he would leave and do the same behavior in a different bedroom. On our first day in the apartment a shelf fell off the wall. We reported it immediately and it was fixed 5 months later. We were very respectful tenants who were always a week ahead in our rent. At the end of our lease, we cleaned our apartment meticulously. We were also informed during our inspections that our apartment was very clean. However, we feel we were taken advantage of as we were charged an extreme amount of our bond for 'dusting'. Even though our inspection was carried out 5 days after we had vacated the property. We were accused of destroying a couch (which had miminal marks and became slightly miss-shapen). This couch was of poor quailty and was cream. We had reported the issue with the couch 6 weeks after moving in and this was ignored by the property manager. When we disputed the cost of couch replacement, we were brought to tribunal to dispute the matter. Because of our overwhelming body of evidence, we won our case. We were also accused of having male guests stay over and sleep on our couch with absolutely no evidence.According to Luke there was "a distinct male smell". As three young professional women we were offended by this. We would not recommend this real estate to our worst enemy. We feel we were not represented fairly by the real estate and they were not acting as an advocate for us as tenants. We were taken advantage of. Do not use this service if you value your safety and money.
